Job Goal(s):
The overall job goal of the Payroll Specialist is to oversee payroll processing for Van Buren ISD and one or two local school districts that we serve.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required with Associates degree in accounting or equivalent preferred
Work Experience:
Three years of data processing experience and prior experience with payroll processing and school accounting preferred
Skills:
Computer literate
Proficient in excel and keyboard, including 10-key pad
Proficient in applying school fund accounting principles
Proficient with payroll fundamentals
High Level of organizational skills and problem-solving skills
Possess good interpersonal and communication skills
Essential Job Functions:
Compute and process payroll each two-week period by utilizing system driven reports, employee lists, and wage/salary rate schedules
Maintain district payroll files and records as supporting documentation.
Enter all information into accounting software for payroll accounts and verify accuracy.
Process all payroll checks and reports necessary for the completion of payroll.
Compute all deductions for state and federal taxes, FICA, pension contributions and generate all necessary back-up reports.
Complete and submit Michigan retirement reports biweekly, reviewing for accuracy and discrepancies.
Generate Electronic Fund Transfers (EFTs) and process transfer within banking system
Generate accounts payable batch (i.
e.
, insurance, garnishments, etc.
).
Input benefit information into accounting software
Prepare and verify quarterly and monthly reports - 941 and UIA, etc.
Assist with completion of workers compensation audit
Answer inquiries involving employees and vendors including payroll, benefit, and personnel policies
Generate and process W-2 year-end statements.
Complete all necessary reports for auditors.
Perform necessary functions in the accounting software that relate to payroll and benefits.
Assist in other areas in the business office.
Maintain the work station relative to its organization and general cleanliness.
Perform additional tasks, responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Finance & Operations.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
