Position Type: Non-Union, Aide, Bus Available: Current Vacancy Department: Transportation Reports to: Transportation Supervisor Purpose: Bus Aides ride the bus and assure a safe and orderly ride.
They assist students with seating, assistive devices, safety and behavioral concerns.
They provide the driver with support as needed, both during routine activities and during emergencies.
Qualifications: Must be 18 or older, and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
The ability to lift 45 pounds.
Good communication skills and the ability to work well with students, parents and staff members.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor.
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following (These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans with Disabilities Act or ADA): Follow all established policies, practices, and procedures in terms of duties and responsibilities of the position as delegated by Transportation Supervisor Rides the bus to individual student stops as necessary in the morning and in the afternoon after each school day.
Prompt attendance is imperative.
Secures students and/or their equipment (e.
g.
restraints, wheelchair tie downs, seat belts) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
Assures that the bus driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle.
Maintains a safe environment.
Engages in the care of students’ needs (e.
g.
hats, coats, mittens and personal hygiene needs.
) Supervise student activity and behavior, reports to the Transportation Supervisor.
Monitors students until released to a teacher, instructional assistant, transfer bus or a parent/guardian.
Maintains awareness of student medical conditions.
Alerts the driver when there is ANY change in a students’ condition.
Answers parent questions, if possible and tell them any pertinent information about the students’ bus ride or condition.
Assists in maintaining the interior of the vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.
Assures that no child is ever left unsupervised on a bus.
Attends all scheduled staff meetings and training, as requested.
Maintains student confidentiality.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job duty.
Complete other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit, walk, stand and reach with hands and arms; lift and carry up to 45 pounds.

The position requires a moderate amount of physical activity.

Terms of Employment: 180 days.
Monday-Friday.
Split Shift Schedule: 5:30am - 8:30am and/or 2:30 pm - 4:30pm.
This position generally follows the TRCS Academic Calendar.
This position has non-working days during winter, spring and summer breaks as well as designated holidays.
Salary, terms and other conditions of employment established by the Board of Education.
