Roles and responsibilities of GSRP Assistant Teachers include:
* All other duties as assigned by direct supervisor or management.
* Assist and support in the orientation and training of the classroom aides and substitutes.
* Assist in delegating responsibilities to classroom aides, parents, and volunteers.
* Assist in developing lesson plans, based on Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), Creative Curriculum, that reflect parental and cultural influences, and promote the children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development
* Assist in establishing daily and weekly goals which promote individual and group educational plans and include parent involvement.
* Assist in maintaining accurate written records; including but not limited to: assessments, screening instruments, and anecdotal observations and portfolios.
* Assist in working in collaboration with special needs staff to meet children's needs as specified on the Individual Education Plan.
* Assist other classroom staff in providing a variety of ways to ensure frequent and consistent contacts with families, such as newsletters, telephone contacts and face to face conversations.
* Assist with the required regularly scheduled parent advisory and conferences.
* Be aware of; know how to prevent, and how to properly handle all children with food allergies and other health situations.
* Assist in maintaining all student attendance, meal counts, and enrollment records and insure that all records and all records are current.
* Ensure proper supervision of children at all times including, but not limited to; in the classroom, on the playground or outside, at toilet times, in all other areas outside of classroom.
* Facilitate positive communication and good working relationships with parents, community partners, co-workers and GSRP and CISD staff.
* Comply with Agency’s Mission, Vision and Culture statements.
* Comply with program and Agency policies and procedures.
* In advance of classroom experiences, assist in preparing classroom materials to support lesson plans and the curriculum.
* May function as the Lead Teacher in his or her absence.
* Responsible to keep assigned work area or classroom clean and miscellaneous housekeeping duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
* Responsible for recruiting, ensuring eligibility, enrolling children maintaining full enrollment and connecting families with available community resources.

* Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and random screenings as needed.
* Criminal background investigation every five years.
* Pass a physical examination and Tuberculosis (TB) test with negative results upon hire.
* Current First Aid and CPR certification.
Physical Requirements:
*Essential Functions:*
* Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
* Work is performed in a classroom setting and school environment where the noise level is moderate.

Qualifications & Education:
*Minimum Qualifications/Education:*
*Education:* Minimum of an Associates’ Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with 12 ECE credit hours from an accredited institution or have a Child Development Associate (CDA) and actively pursuing an Associates’ Degree in Early Childhood Education until completion (must complete degree within a four year period).
*Experience:* Demonstrated ability to supervise and ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for children.
A minimum of one year classroom experience is preferred.
*Professional Competence and Job Knowledge:*
* Ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all children.
* Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily classroom activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children.
* Knowledge of typical behaviors/expectations of three and four year old children.
* Willingness to continue professional growth through continued education.
* Working knowledge of available community resources.
