Scope of Responsibilities
Designs, develops, directs and evaluates the instructional outreach programs of the Kalamazoo Area Mathematics and Science Center (KAMSC).
The director is responsible for the selection of students and staff, curriculum, program, budget and day-to-day management of KAMSC.
Performance Responsibilities
Provides leadership to the Advisory Committee and Executive Council in the design and development of the total program of the Center and serves as executive staff to the Advisory Committee and Executive Council.
Guides the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum and the instructional program of the Center.
Supervises and evaluates KAMSC staff.
Selects students and staff within policies and guidelines recommended by the Advisory Committee and Executive Council and approved by the Kalamazoo Board of Education.
Serves as liaison between the Kalamazoo Area Mathematics and Science Center and area schools and businesses.
Provides technical assistance and leadership to area school districts in curriculum development and K-12 teacher inservice in science and mathematics through conferences, seminars or institutes of the Kalamazoo Area Mathematics and Science Center.
Responsible for developing annual and long range plans for the program and budget for the Kalamazoo Area Mathematics and Science Center.
Informs the Advisory Committee, the Executive Council, and makes recommendations to the Superintendent of development needs of the
Center including renovation, equipment purchases, teacher selection and training of KAMSC staff.
Conducts development and grantsmanship activities of the center.
Plans, implements and evaluates outreach and teacher training activities of the center.
Plans, implements and evaluates school/business partnerships related to the Center program.
Participates and assists in the implementation of the district strategic plan.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree with concentration in administration or supervision, instruction systems design or curriculum with graduate work in math or science preferred.
Experience in providing leadership for significant curriculum development projects at the secondary level.
Previous administrative experience in managing a project or program preferred.
Evidence of the ability to plan and organize development efforts.
Evidence of experience in working with businesses or groups outside of education.
Meet or be willing to meet the State school administrator’s certification or continuing education requirement.
Desirable Qualifications
Doctorate.
Five (5) years successful experience as a teacher.
Knowledge of and experience with staff and program evaluation.
Successful experience in a multicultural urban school district
Knowledge of KPS curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs
Experience administering programs in one or more of the following areas: elementary or secondary education, Title I, special education, Education for Employment, Education for the Arts, early childhood, fine arts, math, science, social studies or other specialized areas or functions.
