What You Will Achieve The Safety Specialist - Culture & General Safety will be part of a dynamic team of experts in Occupational Safety & Industrial Hygiene.

The primary objective of the Safety Specialist - Culture & General Safety role is to support development and deployment of Site Safety Culture Program and a continuously improving, risk based, compliant and integrated Safety management system.
This role will provide day to day guidance and support to front line supervisors, managers and colleagues on the implementation of their responsibilities regarding effective safety management.
Undertake safety related projects, present engaging and effective Safety training and cultural improvement activities.
Conduct audits and inspections of safety system elements to ensure they are effectively meeting the needs of the organization.
This role assists operational leadership with the development and delivery of strategy and programs that will ensure the aspiration of an Incident and Injury free site where every colleague, contractor and visitor leave in a healthier state than when they arrived.
How You Will Achieve It Support the development, deployment and administration of the site Safety Culture Strategy / program.
Support the implementation of strategy and programs to effectively manage operational safety risk.
Work as part of a team of safety professionals to coordinate plant hazard Communication, risk assessment, Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO), Machine Guarding, Ergonomics, Cranes & Hoists, Incident Investigation, and Safety Training program compliance as applicable to areas of responsibility and ensures the maintenance of required documentation.
Support the development and implementation of solutions to a wide range of complex safety problems where complex analysis may be needed.
Develop and present training on safety subjects including orientation and exempt training.
Coordinate plant safety programs, initiatives and documentation.
Act as a “consultant”, providing advice that ensures the highest level of compliance is achieved.
Participates in safety inspections, audit and risk assessment programs.
Supports assigned operational area Safety Committees.
Supports assigned operational areas to assess and safely manage change.
Supports leadership with the process to monitor the completion of actions generated by project safety review, risk assessments and incident investigations to ensure effective and timely management of safety risk.
Develops written procedures and guidance documents in subject areas of occupational safety.
Participates in investigations resulting in root cause determination and the development of effective corrective and preventative action in line with legislation and appropriate industry best practice.
Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications Must-Have Applicant must have a High School Diploma (or Equivalent) and 6 years of relevant experience.
OR an Associate's degree with 4 years of experience.
OR a Bachelor's degree with 0+ years of experience.
Field experience in the areas of Hazard Communication, Electrical safety, Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, LOTO, Machine Guarding, Ergonomics, Cranes & Hoists, Incident Investigation, risk assessment and Safety Training.
Experience in working in a Chemical, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical or similar manufacturing environment.
Field experience in the areas of Hazard Communication, Electrical safety, Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, LOTO, Machine Guarding, Ergonomics, Cranes & Hoists, Incident Investigation, and Safety Training.
Knowledge of the recognition, evaluation and control of hazards in an industrial environment.
Understanding of safety regulatory requirements, specifically OSHA/NFPA standards.
Competency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Project Management, Power Point and TEAMS).
Proven experience of working in the field with area owners to identify and implement the best solutions.
Experience in conducting incident investigations.
Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to use mathematics (including basic algebra and statistics).
Ability to gather and organize data from multiple sources.
Ability to plan and implement projects.
Success building effective working relationships with others.
Nice-to-Have EHS related professional certification.
Experience working in the PSM governed industries.
Working knowledge of GMP and chemistry.
Experience with Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to perform field observations which could involve walking or standing on uneven terrain, squatting, bending, twisting, turning, and reaching above shoulder height and work in various climates from extreme cold to heat.
May require walking, standing, and or sitting for prolonged periods.
Must be able to walk and drive between site facilities.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS Standard work schedule, Monday – Friday, days; may infrequently require off-shift and weekend to support activities in line with the production schedule.
