Position: Electrical Engineer
Location: Bangor and Kalamazoo, Michigan
Getman Corporation is a Southwest Michigan manufacturer and global supplier of mobile equipment to the mining industry.
JOB SUMMARY
Purpose of the position is to develop electrical machine control and supporting systems on Getman underground mining machines, and to support the systems through their entire lifecycle.
This position involves working in a dynamic design environment co-located with our manufacturing plant, requiring the ability to integrate both theoretical knowledge and practical experience while working with teammates to produce high quality products for mining vehicle applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design electrical machine control systems, including power supply, instrumentation, control circuits and electrical harnesses, utilizing CAD (Zuken, SolidWorks and SolidWorks Electrical) to ensure proper form, fit, and functionality of design
Participate in machine control program development process at various stages such as development of functional requirements, test cases, validation at test bench and final product testing, utilizing tools such as Danfoss Plus+1 and JIRA
Use knowledge and best practices of industrial and mobile machinery, good engineering practices, mathematic and physical sciences to complete designs
Maintain a positive working relationship with Getman Corporation employees to ensure a cooperative and productive work environment
Support the Applications Engineering Group through design and documentation
Work with guidance from direct supervisor or more experienced engineers
Exercise ingenuity to complete tasks without extensive supervision
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
Meet deadlines while completing each job thoroughly and accurately
May aid in the design of hydraulic systems to meet requirements of customized vehicle orders
Preparation of calculations for design adequacy in areas of component design
Prepare and/or check bills of material, create new part numbers, and manage engineering change orders
Determination of root cause and resolution of vehicle integration problems on the production floor
Use foresight to identify and minimize risks associated with vehicle operations or maintenance
Support other engineering groups NPD (New Product Development) and ETO (Engineer-to-Order)
May assist in improving current designs and systems
May analyze parts for strength and durability
May be required to test-drive product for testing and analysis
May be required to provide support to sales, marketing, service, warranty, and production departments
Other job duties and assignments as directed
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related Engineering field from an accredited university
Must be familiar with manufacturing processes
Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement processes and compliance with standards and ISO guidelines preferred
Programming experience is highly desired (PLC, MATLAB or similar)
Experience in 12/24V circuits and high voltage systems (480V) will be an advantage
1-2 years of practical experience is highly desired
SKILLS, TALENTS AND/OR CHARACTERISTICS
A highly successful applicant will be familiar with hydraulic and electrical circuits, selection / integration of components to meet system requirements
