Production / Safety Supervisor Sterling Industries – Kalamazoo, MI 49009 Job Type: Full-time About the Company Based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Sterling Industries is a fast-growing North American based contract manufacturer and assembler of medical devices and sub-components.

About the Role The Production / Safety Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the optimal use of company resources (people, materials, and equipment) to produce products to specifications, on time and complete to meet the expectations of our customers while improving our people, processes, and equipment.
The role will also enforce adherence and assure compliance of OSHA laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.
TEAM LEAD DUTIES: Operating production equipment daily while ensuring other responsibilities are completed.
Ensuring our production metrics and expectations of 100% complete, on time, and quality metrics are met.
Training and mentoring of production staff members on job requirements, equipment, quality, and safety systems.
Coordinate scheduling people and production Assist the Operations Manager with day-to-day staff functions and procedures of the production team Leader of safety committee and ensuring state, local, and internal safety regulations are met or exceeded for all team members in the facility.
Executing equipment preventative maintenance programs and resolution of equipment issues Executing continuous improvements in people, equipment, processes, products, and the facility though AIT (area improvement teams) Coordination and communication with other departments (materials, engineering, quality, and operations) Moving material to equipment using a Hilo.
HEALTH & SAFETY DUTIES: Enforces adherence and assures compliance of corporate and government laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.
Investigates complaints, investigates and documents incidents and accidents, identifies what caused them, and determines how to prevent future incidents and accidents.
Manages Workers Compensation insurance claims and reports accident/incidents as required by law to Workers Comp in partnership with Human Resources Collaborates with Engineers and Management to control or fix hazardous conditions or equipment.
Evaluates current equipment and removes defective equipment.
Informs management of areas out of compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations and with employer policies.
Conducts training on safety and health related topics, including new regulations, proper lifting techniques, how to recognize hazards, and emergency preparedness.
Recommends ways to reduce absenteeism and equipment downtime; and looks for ways to save money by lowering insurance premiums and workers' compensation payments and preventing government fines.
Manage health & safety committee, ensures meeting minutes are posted, and monthly inspections are completed.
Collaborates with Management and HR on reviewing the Health & Safety Handbook and keeping it current.
Coordinates First Aid training for staff.
Develops and implements fire drill procedure.
Update MSDS sheets regularly.
Ensures Health & Safety board is up to date.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: PRODUCTION SUPERVSOR Ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years of direct experience in a fabrication and/or machining environment (production, equipment, quality systems, and facility) with people management responsibilities.
Minimum of an associate degree or equivalent experience and certifications preferred.
Has good technical analysis and problem-solving ability Able to lead multiple team members within a production environment.
Able to communicate and coordinate with administrative, operations, quality, and engineering teams.
Able to develop, implement, and complete continuous improvement efforts.
Able to work a flexible schedule.
Has extensive working knowledge of manufacturing and process equipment Proficient in Microsoft Office (outlook, word, excel) Hilo Experience POSITION REQUIREMENTS: SAFETY SUPERVISOR Must be familiar with Federal OSHA standards including 29 CFR as well as NFPA70E.
CPR, AED, and First Aid Certified Must have people skills and approachability.
Must be familiar with physical security, access control, and fire alarm systems.
Forklift certification Ability to plan, execute, and debrief after a drill.
