Human Resources Generalist Sterling Industries – Kalamazoo, MI 49009 Job Type: Full-time About the Company Based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Sterling Industries is a fast-growing North American based contract manufacturer and assembler of medical devices and sub-components.
We help clients deliver successful products by providing scaled production, design-for-manufacturing expertise, supplier consolidation and other critical value chain services.
About the Role The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for overall direction and control human resources related activities in accordance with Sterling's policies.
The role will also enforce adherence and assure compliance of OSHA laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.
HUMAN RESOURCES DUTIES: Support (onsite and offsite) the operations in Kalamazoo, MI Benefits Administration including new hires, terminations, salary increases, coverage changes Set up and maintain personnel files for all employees Developing and implementing employee training as it relates to HR/EHS (harassment, Health and Safety, MSDS, forklift, etc) Development, control and maintenance of employee training records for ISO requirements Implement control mechanism of performance evaluation process HR Administration including maintaining all employee files, offer letters, termination letters, disciplinary letters, promotion letters job descriptions.
Develop and maintain HR Policies and Procedures Conduct employee investigations, and execute disciplines based on findings Full-cycle recruitment including internal job postings, external job postings, interviews, offer of employments Presenting HR solutions to help the organization achieve its growth and business objectives.
Training initiatives as needed Drive the Performance Management Process / Salary Administration Development of a Compensation Program / Pay Equity Compliance Drive the Social Committee and Employee Engagement initiatives Updating and maintaining the Employee Handbook Monitor unemployment insurance claims.
Additional administrative deliverables as needed Development and execution of Onboarding process Conduct exit interviews, and employee satisfaction surveys.
HEALTH & SAFETY DUTIES: Enforces adherence and assures compliance of corporate and government laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.
Investigates complaints, investigates and documents incidents and accidents, identifies what caused them, and determines how to prevent future incidents and accidents.
Manages Workers Compensation insurance claims and reports accident/incidents as required by law to Workers Comp.
Collaborates with Engineers and Management to control or fix hazardous conditions or equipment.
Evaluates current equipment and removes defective equipment.
Informs management of areas out of compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations and with employer policies.
Conducts training on safety and health related topics, including new regulations, proper lifting techniques, how to recognize hazards, and emergency preparedness.
Recommends ways to reduce absenteeism and equipment downtime; and looks for ways to save money by lowering insurance premiums and workers' compensation payments and preventing government fines.
Manage health & safety committee, ensures meeting minutes are posted, and monthly inspections are completed.
Collaborates with Management and HR on reviewing the Health & Safety Handbook and keeping it current.
Coordinates First Aid training for staff.
Develops and implements fire drill procedure.
Update MSDS sheets regularly.
Ensures Health & Safety board is up to date.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: HUMAN RESOURCES Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Human Resources Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration Strong knowledge of Michigan Labor Laws Experience supporting a manufacturing team preferred Experience working with and/or understanding of ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 Quality systems or equivalent preferred Strong general management and demonstrated leadership skills Strong creativity and innovative skills Excellent problem solver Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Adaptable to establish themselves within a new and challenging environment POSITION REQUIREMENTS: HEALTH & SAFETY Must be familiar with Federal OSHA standards including 29 CFR as well as NFPA70E.
CPR, AED, and First Aid Certified preferred Must have people skills and approachability.
Must be familiar with physical security, access control, and fire alarm systems.
Forklift certification Ability to plan, execute, and debrief after a drill.
